TLR 8IGHT X-E

$
0
0
Hello Everyone,

The 8IGHT X-E takes it to the next level with a new, from the ground-up design that once again sets the bar for all 1/8th scale Electric Buggies. It features a traditional style chassis layout, neutral driving feel, and improved jumping capabilities.

FEATURES

IMPROVED SUSPENSION GEOMETRY

THE 8IGHT X-E NEXT GEN SUSPENSION GEOMETRY HAS BEEN COMPLETELY REVAMPED MAKING A CAR THAT IS FAST, NIMBLE, AND EASY TO DRIVE. THIS INCLUDES A MYRIAD OF UPDATES INCLUDING ALUMINUM SPINDLES, 17.5-DEGREE SPINDLE CARRIERS, LONGER FRONT SHOCKS, WIDER FRONT PIVOT WITH LESS SCRUB RADIUS, NARROWER REAR PIVOT, LONGER REAR SHOCKS, AND UPDATED HUB OFFSET.

WIDE CHASSIS

THE 8IGHT X-E FEATURES A MORE TRADITIONAL "WIDE" STYLE CHASSIS THAT INCREASES STABILITY, BALANCE AND GIVES THE BUGGY A MORE NEUTRAL FEEL. THIS ALSO ALLOWS FOR THE COMPONENT'S TO BE SPREAD OUT INSTEAD OF CRAMPED TOGETHER AS WITH A NARROW STYLE CHASSIS MAKING MAINTENANCE A BREEZE.

LARGER PINION BEARING

THE 8IGHT X-E FEATURES AN OVER-SIZED PINION BEARING IN THE FRONT AND REAR OF THE BUGGY FOR INCREASED STRENGTH AND DURABILITY. THIS ALLOWS FOR A SMOOTHER, MORE RELIABLE AND HASSLE-FREE DRIVELINE.

CAB FORWARD STYLE BODY

THE BODY HAS BEEN COMPLETELY REDESIGNED ON THE 8IGHT X-E TO INCORPORATE THE CAB-FORWARD STYLING WHICH CREATES MORE DOWNFORCE ON THE FRONT OF THE BODY. THIS EXTRA DOWNFORCE IMPROVES FORWARD TRACTION AND STEERING. THE REAR OF THE BODY HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO CREATE MAXIMUM AIRFLOW FOR LESS DRAG, WHILE A CENTER FIN KEEPS THE BUGGY STABLE AT SPEED.

CHASSIS SIDE GUARDS

THE CHASSIS SIDE GUARDS HAVE BEEN REDESIGNED TO FIT THE WIDE CHASSIS AND NEW BODY WITH A SUPER CLEAN FIT WHILE OFFERING MAXIMUM PROTECTION FROM DIRT AND DEBRIS.

NEW ALUMINUM MOTOR MOUNT

LIGHTWEIGHT AND DURABLE MOTOR MOUNT THAT AIDS IN HEAT DISSIPATION AND IS EASY TO ADJUST FOR QUICK GEARING CHANGES. THE MOTOR IS NOW MOUNTED TO THE CHASSIS RATHER THAN HANGING OFF THE CENTER DIFF FOR ADDED DURABILITY.

ADJUSTABLE CASTER BLOCKS

REDESIGNED AND FULLY ADJUSTABLE 17.5-DEGREE CASTER BLOCKS COME STANDARD ON THE 8IGHT X-E. THE HEIGHT OF THE SPINDLE IN THE CASTER BLOCK CAN BE ADJUSTED VIA SPACERS ON THE KINGPIN. OPTIONAL SPINDLE ACKERMAN ARMS WILL BE SOLD SEPARATELY TO ALLOW FOR EVEN MORE ADJUSTMENTS AND FINE-TUNING.

BLEEDER SHOCK CAPS

THE 8IGHT X-E COMES STANDARD WITH MACHINED ALUMINUM SHOCK CAPS WITH THREADED BLEEDER SCREWS. BLEEDER SCREWS ALLOW YOU TO BUILD AND REBUILD YOUR SHOCKS FASTER AND EASIER WHILE ENSURING YOU HAVE THE EXACT AMOUNT OF OIL IN YOUR SHOCKS EVERY TIME CREATING CONSISTENT REBOUND.

CHASSIS BALANCE

THE TLR ENGINEERS WORKED RELENTLESSLY TO GET THE PERFECT BALANCE ON THE 8IGHT X-E BY MOVING COMPONENTS TO KEY LOCATIONS ON THE CHASSIS TO PROVIDE THE BEST DRIVING FEEL AND BALANCE TO THE VEHICLE.

STEERING RACK

THE 8IGHT X-E STEERING RACK HAS BEEN REDESIGNED TO HAVE A MUCH CLEANER, LESS CLUTTERED LINKAGE TO THE STEERING SERVO ALONG WITH MORE ACKERMAN ADJUSTMENTS. THE IMPROVED DESIGN OF THE SERVO SAVER ALSO ELIMINATES BELLCRANK BIND DURING HIGH LOADS CREATING A MUCH SMOOTHER, CONSISTENT STEERING FEEL.

SHOCK TOWERS

THE 8IGHT X-E FEATURES MACHINED 7075-T6 ALUMINUM SHOCK TOWERS FOR EXTRA STRENGTH AND DURABILITY. THEY HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY REDESIGNED TO WORK WITH THE 8IGHT X-E’S NEW SUSPENSION GEOMETRY WHICH FEATURES UPDATED CAMBER LINK HOLES AS WELL AS A TALLER REAR TOWER.

BETTER DIFF ACCESS

THE FRONT AND REAR DIFF CASE ARE DESIGNED TO ALLOW EASY ACCESS TO THE DIFFERENTIALS WITHOUT REMOVING THE BULKHEADS FROM THE VEHICLE, ALLOWING RACERS TO MAKE DIFF OIL CHANGES IN HALF THE TIME. THE CENTER DIFF CAN BE ACCESSED VIA A SPLIT CENTER MOUNT WITH THE REMOVAL OF ONLY FOUR SCREWS.

SWAY BAR SYSTEM

THE 8IGHT X-E BOASTS A SWAY BAR SYSTEM THAT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY REVAMPED FOR A MORE PRECISE, EQUALIZED AND CONSISTENT FEEL. EACH SIDE OF THE SWAY BAR FEATURES ADJUSTABLE LENGTH LINKS AS WELL AS COLLARS TO KEEP THE SWAY BARS CENTERED IN THE ROUGHEST OF CONDITIONS.

EQUALIZED DRIVELINE

TO CREATE AN EASIER TO DRIVE, MORE CONSISTENT 4WD FEEL TO THE 8IGHT-XE, THE ENTIRE DRIVELINE HAS BEEN REDESIGNED TO CREATE A REDUCED DRIVELINE ANGLE ON BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR DRIVE SHAFTS. THIS NOT ONLY CREATES AN EQUALIZED DRIVELINE BUT ALSO REDUCES WEAR ON KEY DRIVELINE COMPONENTS.

OPTIMIZED SHOCKS

THE LARGE-BORE SHOCKS HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY OPTIMIZED FOR GREATER PRECISION AND INCREASED PERFORMANCE. THEY COME STANDARD WITH MACHINED PISTONS AND HAVE BEEN LIGHTENED TO DECREASE THE CENTER OF GRAVITY AND LOWER THE WEIGHT OF THE CAR. THE 8IGHT X-E INCLUDES 4.0MM SHOCK SHAFTS FOR EXTRA STRENGTH AND DURABILITY. 3.5MM SHOCK SHAFTS ARE AVAILABLE AS A CONVERSION KIT.

METRIC HARDWARE

THE 8IGHT X-E WILL MOVE AWAY FROM STANDARD HARDWARE THAT WAS COMMON PLACE ON ALL PREVIOUS 8IGHT’S. THE NEW STANDARD WILL BE METRIC HARDWARE AND WILL BE ON PAR WITH ALL OTHER MANUFACTURERS. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR EASIER SCREW REPLACEMENTS AND UPGRADES.

REAR MUD GUARDS

THE 8IGHT X-E COMES STANDARD WITH REAR AXLE MUDGUARDS. THESE GUARDS NOT ONLY PROTECT YOUR REAR AXLES AND BEARINGS FROM DAMAGE DURING ROUGH AND WET CONDITIONS, BUT THEY ALSO KEEP YOUR AXLES RUNNING SMOOTH AND PRECISE IN ALL CONDITIONS.

REAR SHOCK MOUNTING LOCATIONS (FRONT)

THE 8IGHT X-E WAS DESIGNED SO RACERS CAN MOUNT THE REAR SHOCKS ON THE FRONT OF THE REAR ARM OR ON THE FRONT OF THE REAR ARM. BY MOUNTING THE REAR SHOCKS TO THE FRONT OF THE REAR ARM, THE WEIGHT BIAS SHIFTS FORWARD AND THE ARM FLEXES LESS, THEREFORE PROVIDING MORE ROTATION IN THE CORNERS.

REAR SHOCK MOUNTING (BACK)

BY MOUNTING THE REAR SHOCKS TO THE BACK OF THE ARM, THE WEIGHT BIAS IS FURTHER TO THE BACK AND ALLOWS THE REAR ARM TO FLEX MORE, THEREFORE PROVIDING MORE REAR GRIP.

LIGHTWEIGHT BATTERY MOUNTING SYSTEM

THE 8IGHT X-E FEATURES A NEWLY DESIGNED BATTERY MOUNTING SYSTEM THAT NOT ONLY SAVES WEIGHT, BUT IT ALSO MAKES BATTERY INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL QUICK AND EASY.

Available early February, Per-order today at Horizon Hobby

1/8 Differential Building Tip

$

Hey Guys,

Here is a quick build tip from Team Losi Racing’s Factory Driver Tyler Jones’s father, Randy Jones, who is an avid mechanic and is always looking for ways to improve the build on Tyler’s 8IGHT-X and 8IGHT-XE.

During the build of your 8IGHT-X differentials, it is hard to not get oil into the screw holes that hold the ring gear and spur gear onto the differential case. To alleviate any oil into the screw holes, Randy uses a #54 drill bit, which measures .055”, and drills through the four screw holes in the differential case. By performing this simple modification, it will allow the oil to escape and avoids the screw from hydro-locking in the differential case.

We had more parts come in for the 8X this week.

TLR341018 - Quick Change Engine Mount Only, 8X
TLR341019 - Quick Change Engine Mount Set, 8X

These allow you to leave the base of the engine in place and remove the engine from the top keeping your gear mesh set.

TLR344039 - Sway Bars, F 2.2/2.4, R 2.6/2.8: 8X

These are what we refer to as the even set.  This set makes it so you can make finer adjustments to your sway bar setups.

TLR344040 - Aluminum Spindle Carrier Set, 17.5: 8X
TLR344041 - Aluminum Spindle Carrier Set, 20: 8X

These both provide extra durability as well as tunability.  Each has an additional camber mounting location and the 20 degree carriers offer the ability to now run 20 degrees of caster.

Good luck out there!

8IGHT-X and 8IGHT-XE wing raising

Hello everyone,

This past week TLR’s Kevin Gahan, on the latest installment of In Touch with TLR, on our FaceBook page talked about raising the rear wing on the TLR 8IGHT-X and 8IGHT-XE. From testing, we’ve found this slight modification adds grip and stability. There are many ways to do this, and you might find a better way, but here’s how I did mine. I used an old wing mount from an 8IGHT 4.0 cut it and added it to the existing wing mount on my 8IGHT-X. This raised the wing about 7mm’s. We’ve found you can go as high as 10mm’s.

Mounting Spindles into Aluminum Caster Blocks - 8X

$

Howdy Folks!

We wanted to go over some tips here on mounting the 8X spindle into the aluminum carrier.  Many of these tips can also be helpful for mounting them in the plastic carrier as well.

With wanting to keep tolerances tight, there are some important tips to getting the 8X spindle into the aluminum carrier that we wanted to share.  The main reason for this is many have been using the plastic carrier and will be switching over to the aluminum which can often mean some extra thread lock in some tight spaces.

For those of you building these from your used parts, make sure the surfaces of your spindle inserts are clean and clear.  It may be good to just lightly sand them flat if you see any thread lock on them.
Once you have those clean, it is the same process from here on out for those that are using new parts.  Start by placing thread lock into each hole in the spindle itself.  Please do not place the thread lock onto the screws for this item.  It tends to not make it all the way into the threads and thus you end up losing a screw and breaking parts.
Make sure you get enough in the hole to coat all the threads.
You can see in this image, there is plenty in the hole, but there is some that is on the surface as well.  Wipe the surface portion clean.
Do this to both sides.  Next, place the spindle inserts according to whether you want the spindle up or down and place the spindle between them.  Insert both screws a couple threads.  Now tighten one and then tighten the other. You should notice that thread lock has come out of the hole on the inside of the spindle like shown here.
Wipe this off of both sides so it does not get into the bearing bosses.
Now you can install your bearings and driveshafts and you are ready to go.  We hope this helps you out at the track.  Good luck out there!

8IGHT- X and 8IGHT-XE 17.5 and 20 deg front aluminum spindle carriers

Hello everyone,

This week I would like to share TLR’s 17.5 deg (TLR344040) and 20 deg (TLR344041) front aluminum spindle carriers for the 8IGHT-X and 8IGHT-XE. Both are an upgrade from the standard kit spindle carriers as these are machined out of aluminum and gives you an extra lower inner chamber link location over the stock spindle carriers. The team has found that the 20 deg spindle carriers steer better on bumpy tracks and have a little less steering mid corner over the 17.5 deg spindle carriers.

8IGHT- X and 8IGHT-XE arm inserts options

$
0
0
Hello everyone,

This week, I would like to share what options you have for your 8IGHT- X and 8IGHT-XE as in arm inserts. First option is leaving the arm insert out, which allows the arm to flex the most; this is better in low grip situations.  The downfall to that is the arm will collect loose dirt/clay in the pockets of the arm. Second is running the plastic arm inserts that come with the arms, which gives a little less flex, but is not totally rigid. It also covers up the pockets and it gives a smooth look without an area for dirt/clay to collect. Finally is the carbon inserts, (TLR344037 Front, TLR344038 Rear) which gives you the most rigid arm possible and the smooth look without an area for dirt/clay to collect.  This way seems to work best in high grip situations.
